We are currently recruiting for an Electromechanical Technologist /Designer for an automotive parts manufacturer located in southern Ontario. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze new components or technologies as they apply to harness design or manufacturing.
  • Translate customer requirements into pertinent component product design criteria that meet all customer and ISO / QS /TS requirements.
  • Work with Application Technologists/Engineers and customer engineers to understand and use as appropriate the customer’s engineering procedures and processes.
  • Provide on-site support at plants during development of related processes.
  • Prepare DFMEA’s and test plans and effectively utilize information to create robust product designs.
  • Monitor, track and analyze warranty SIR (Service Incident Rate) related to platform products. Utilize acquired information to develop corrective/preventative actions for current and future designs.
  • Support root cause and corrective action analysis.
  • Assist in defining and maintaining customer project schedules as tasks relate to activities.
  • Assist in developing internal timelines to meet customer program timing requirements.
  • Representation at customer Engineering meetings and report back to assembly plants as necessary.
  • Assist in performing performance analysis on new components and designs.
  • Provide assistance at customer plants for Production Validation runs and problem solving.
  • Support other activities (Quality, Manufacturing) with the customer, as requested.
  • Support Sales in identifying new business opportunities with existing and new customers.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels, verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process and quality systems.
  • Support benchmarking and competitive analysis of components.
  • Provide VA/VE support to Application Engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned by Engineering Management.

Skills Required

  • Automotive Component Design & Manufacturing Experience (minimum 5 years combined).
  • Electromechanical Technologist
  • Experience in designing plastic components, processes, and materials with specific emphasis on mold-on, over-mold, or insert-molded components.
  • Experience with lead-frame or stamped metal designs.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools and methodology (preferred).
  • Experience with 3D preferred (ProE, AutoCad, CATIA, UG).
  • Ability to manage multiple program events such that engineering objectives are met.
  • Ability to formulate and implement solutions to design problems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on own with limited supervision.
  • Good understanding of component design procedures.
