We are currently recruiting for a Materials Supervisor for a Tier In automotive parts manufacturer. This position will report to the Materials Manager. The primary function of this position is to cost effectively supervise the materials function to ensure that the customer quality requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Schedule review with shipping/receiving & processing operations to ensure customer requirements are met

- Supervise hourly plant employees in the warehouse/shipping/ processing departments, including employee coaching, discipline, training and scheduling of work.
- Co-ordinate with off-shift supervisors regarding shipping and warehousing activities.
- Maintain all records for operations as required by TS16949.
- Ensure inventory is accurate and meets customers\' needs.
- Track cycle count accuracy.
- Responsible to order expendable packaging to ensure correct quantity to meet production schedule.
- Ensure safe, clean work environment in warehouse and shipping areas and actively participate in safety prevention and accident investigations in compliance with HS&E.
- Source most economical methods of shipping product for on-time delivery.
- Assist Manufacturing Manager and supervise periodic, monthly and year-end inventory control.
- Update and respond as to all customer requirements for accurate DDL (Ford), SMART (Chrysler) and Toyota communication.
- Involvement in resolving union grievances in order to find a resolution.
- Responsible for waste/recycling scheduling, cost, tracking performance.
- Back-up duties for order processing of all customer orders as received by telephone, mail, fax, EDI, customer software (Covisint, DDL, GM Power supply, I-Supply, Toyota Kanban, etc.) using the Materials information system (MIS)
- Schedule & track all lift truck repairs. Issue PO’S when necessary.
- Ensure operating policies and procedures are observed and communicated to all personnel.
- Ensure compliance with union contract and Corporate Policies and Procedures.
- Direct reports: Shipper/Receivers , Material Handlers, & Material Processors
Requirements
- Knowledge in materials resource planning (MRP), and just-in-time requirements
- Strong organizational and decision-making skills
- Ability to understand financial statements and budgeting and good grasp of costing, particularly related to inventory management.
- Technical knowledge related to production and process capabilities
- Product knowledge and an understanding of customer requirements
- CMS/RF scanners
- Supervisory, leadership, coaching, negotiating and interpersonal skills
- Good understanding of collective labour agreement
- Introductory level competency in Windows, Word, Excel and e-mail
- Post-secondary education preferably in business, operations management, logistics/warehouse management.
