We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Designer for a special purpose machine manufacturer. This position will report to the Engineering Manager. Job Summary

It is an intermediate level position in our engineering department with opportunity to growth into senior mechanical designer specializing in design of machinery and material handling systems. The emphasis will be put on generating/reviewing engineering drawings and related documents with gradual increase in design responsibilities. Strong practical understanding of GD&T and weld symbols is required. Mechanical design experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design and optimization of machines, heavy conveyor systems according to the current industrial standards applicable to machine tool design and construction
  • Design optional equipment for our product line
  • Assists with design of specialized equipment as per marketing/customer requests
  • Redesign various components/elements of our product to improve functionality, manufacturability, and decrease overall cost
  • Review current and new engineering drawings for completeness and adherence to established standards. It includes but is not limited to material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes etc.
  • Produces working drawings, detail drawings and bill of materials for product and subassemblies
  • Review and updates 3-d models
  • Contributes to the enhancement of department drawing standards, design standards and procedures
  • Provide support to maintenance/creation of product manuals
  • Provides support with selection and sourcing required mechanical components to purchasing as required
  • Provide assistance and instructions to manufacturing, assembly and service as required
  • Assist and be part of engineering office processes (revisions, engineering changes, information packages for outsourcing)
  • Involved with prototype building, testing and evaluation
  • Support/maintain engineering information in company ERP System (SAP Business One)
  • Adhere to all safety rules and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ year relevant experience
  • Background in machine tool design preferred
  • Working knowledge of ISO principals is an asset

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a team player with positive attitude, able to work in high paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of AUTOCAD and SolidWorks
  • some Pro-E experience would be an asset
  • Self-motivated, well organized with good prioritizing skills
